The Root of Priority: One Way To Get Rid of Procrastination

Study from researchers show that up to Ninety-five percent (95%) of college students procrastinate. Some people have said that procrastination is as a result of lazy behaviour, but Leigh Whittaker, SGA president at UNC Asheville, said she disagrees.

It’s easy to procrastinate when you’re having fun, and in college you have a lot of fun, and so it’s a lot easier to do the fun and immediate gratifications first,” Whittaker said.

Hello Successful individual!
Lovely week running through right?
Okay, real quick, let's deal with the issue of procrastination.
This topic, among others, is one that affects and interests a considerable number of people; old and young alike.
From Whittaker's statement, it is obvious that people procrastinate, not because they are lazy, but because they set their priorities wrong. Procrastination is not a question of laziness. It's a question of Priority. However you choose to see it, it still boils down to Priority. Instead of doing homework that must be submitted the next day, Rebecca would rather play with her friends, sleep or even sit and do nothing; that is what she chooses to do at that moment. She is not lazy. She is just doing what she feels is more important at that moment.
NOTE: What is really important might not be what we consider important. They are two different things.
Most times, we humans want to go for what we consider important and not what is really important.

To pull down a tree, you must first deal with the root, except you want to cut the tree halfway.
Now, to deal with the tree of Procrastination, we must deal with the root of Priority. The answer to the question of Procrastination is Priority.
One funny thing about us humans, is that we always make issues seem bigger than they really are. One of such issues is Procrastination. PROCRASTINATION IS NOT A BIG DEAL. If you let it become a big deal, it will remain a big deal until you change your mind.
So many books have been written about this issue because the world sees it as a big deal. But for you reading this post right now, erase the mindset that procrastination is a big issue. It is not. If you tell yourself it is, then it is. If you tell yourself it's not, then it's not. Your mind processes what you allow it to.

If you're struggling with Procrastination, here are the three steps to get rid if it:
1. Lay Out Your Tasks.
2. Have A Strong Determination To Carry It Out.
3. Carry It Out Strictly.

Sounds simple right? It is that simple.
Remember what you were taught about scale of preference?
Here is a quick reminder.
A scale of preference is a list of wants or needs that a person writes or comes up with, in order of IMPORTANCE.
Now, Scale of Preference can and should be applied in our daily life. As simple as the first step is, so many people still struggle with it.
When you wake up in the morning, here is a mirror layout you can use:

MY TASKS FOR THE DAY.
TASK 1: PRAY AND STUDY BIBLE (7:00-7:45am)
TASK 2: BRUSH MY TEETH
TASK 3: DO HOUSE CHORES
TASK 4: BATHE AND HAVE BREAKFAST
TASK 5: READ TWO COURSES AND ANSWER QUESTIONS ON THEM
TASK 6: GO TO SCHOOL
TASK 7: TAKE A NAP
TASK 8: WASH CLOTHES
TASK 9: CHAT ONLINE
TASK 10: SLEEP

NOTE: You can also allocate time to each task like TASK 1 above. It is interesting when you're trying to beat time for a specific task.
This is what I do every morning. It can help you too. It helps you to set your priorities right. Sometimes you want to do certain things at a particular time when you have a laid out task, but you should be disciplined enough to set your priorities right. This brings us to STEP 2: HAVE A STRONG DETERMINATION TO CARRY IT OUT. Not just determination, but strong one. Don't just say "I'll do it". Create a mindset that if you don't do it, you have failed throughout that day.
STEP 3: CARRY IT OUT STRICTLY. Stubbornly carry out the task. No matter how many more tasks come up, strive to follow the ones you laid out, while considering the new ones, depending on how important they are. Remember to also apply the mindset you created in STEP 2.
It is actually fun, when you lay out tasks and then tick them as you carry them out.
There is a great sense of responsibility that overwhelms you when you lay out  tasks to carry them out, and a great sense of fulfilment and accomplishment when you eventually carry them out.
Procrastination is not so big a deal.
Simply lay out the task, have a strong determination to carry out the task, and accompany your determination with successful actions.
SWEETHEART, IT IS AS EASY AS IT SOUNDS.

THE GOLDEN LIST OF PEOPLE WHO CAN NEVER SUCCEED.

Hello Successful individual, Happy Weekend.
Carefully read through and let it sink through, so that you can think through! (wink)
This series, as I said last week, will only feature on Saturdays (for this month only) until the book is published.
So, from previous posts, you must have learned quite a number of attributes that hinder your success, some of which are: Complaints, blame, criticism, and others.
So today, let's look at one important one. Again, i've classified this attribute as a person, for easy understanding.

# THE WRITE-OFF
When asked what it means to write yourself off, a man gave this intelligent and accurate answer:
"It means that you've given up on yourself. You feel like you've reached a point where you can't go back, and you're not even going to try for the future."
If you write someone else off, you might get by with it and eventually succeed, but nobody can succeed after he has written himself off. Writing yourself Off is giving up on success itself; So how can you expect to achieve something you gave up on?
People who write themselves off are people who have been disappointed countless times after trying so hard to achieve something.
Some students in the higher institution have given up on having a First Class Grade. They have tried to lay a good foundation as freshers, but with time, the courses seem harder and the most popular decision made among students is "As long as I don't graduate with a PASS, I'm okay". This gives room for any grade to come in. At the same time, they have already convinced themselves that they cannot get a Distinction. and their convinction works for them.
Conviction, whether good or bad, will become a reality, if sustained.
There is great power in your words. Use it wisely.
The moment you say you can't do something, it gradually becomes a reality.

Do not look down on yourself. For the fact that it's taking a slow process doesn't mean that it will not eventually manifest. Instead, it is a proof that something great is about to be birthed. Great things take longer time to manifest. Small things take less time, and is also forgotten in less time.
Don't just admire your mentors blindly. Research about their achievements. You'll find out that every great man kept "PUSHING".
Keep Pushing!
Be proud of your present achievement,
but don't be satisfied!
Keep Pushing!
Keep Moving!
Have a lovely day ahead!

CONSIDER, DON'T CARE!

Hello Successful individual, just before you have your Brunch, let's converse.
This topic is borne out of a statement most Youths make: "i don't care what they say about me".
Well, I used to say that too, until I realised the danger in walking in that reality.
Sometimes, people talk out of envy and just call you all sorts of things. not because it is true, but because they are born talkers; they just have to talk, and God bless the person beside them at their talkertive moment. But there are also some people who lash you with their words, but although they sound so harsh, it's the truth.

NOW WHAT SHOULD I DO?
The right thing to do is to CONSIDER what they say, but don't CARE.
Condider- to think about seriously; to look at attentively.
Care- To pay close attention; concern; responsibility; WORRY.
These two words almost mean the same thing, but in the actual sense they don't. The element of "WORRY" in the word "CARE", already rules it out.
Don't let what others say weigh you down.

But consider what they say. If they say you're proud, check yourself, Am I Really Proud?, but don't go under your blanket, seeing yourself as a bad person already.
Now, NOTE: People's opinion don't define you. Their definition of your action may not be the real definition of your action. People define your actions based on their own perspective.
As a lady, if a guy walks up to you on the road, to have a conversation with you, but you have something really important you are rushing to attend to; maybe you're running late to pick up your younger siblings from school, or you really have to change your sanitary towel- if you say to the guy in the most polite manner: I'm really sorry, but i have to attend to something hurriedly; he might still call you "PROUD", because from his perspective, that is what your action depicts.
Same goes for guys too. You say "hi" to a lady with the intention of just appreciating her beauty, but she is so quick to judge that she rushes to say "I'm not interested".
Do you understand now? People define your actions from their perspective, and sometimes, their perspective is not wrong. So, check yourself when people say both good and bad about you. Are you really what they call you? Are they really just trying to bring you down? Are they trying to flatter you?
Condider, Don't Care; because Caring brings Worry and Worry weigh you down!
Strive to be polite in speech and actions. Try to see things from the viewpoint of others.
Be considerate!
You can have your Brunch now! (wink).

LET'S TALK BAE!

LET'S TALK BAE!

Always with his headphones on, Andrew would always sing along with every song that plays on it, making the job easier for those around him to stop guessing which song plays next. One would wonder what exactly inspires Drew, the lyrics or the rhythm?

Hello, Successful individual!
It's still a new month and I would love this month to start with BAE!
Yes bae, music is bae, you know.
Don't tell me you're too busy to read through oohh! IT'S A WORK FREE DAY!

Okay, so it's been on my mind for quite a long time now and since i have YnM lovers around, LET'S TALK MUSIC!

I've come across a lot of people who just innocently walk on the street and then get caught up with a particular song, usually in front of a barber's shop or across a bar. We often can't control it and even when we try to comport ourselves, we just find ourselves moving to the beat; nodding our heads or making gestures with our hands.
On the contrary, i've seen people whose first reaction when they hear a song is to listen for the lyrics to either praise or criticize what it says.
This observation is what brings about the topic: RHYTHM OR LYRICS, WHICH INSPIRES YOU THE MOST?

I came across a quote sometime that reads:
When you are happy you enjoy the music, but when you are sad, you understand the lyrics.
This is somewhat true, although somtimes even when you're sad, you just need a nice beat to lure you into happiness.
A good girl was dancing one day and her friend said "oh, so you dance to songs like this". In a state of confusion, she asked her friend what she meant and then she realised that the lyrics of the song was lewd. She didn't pay attention to the lyrics of the song, not because she didn't understand the language, but because she paid more attention to the beat.
Ninety nine percent of about ten people have said that they are inspired by the rhythm of a song and not the lyrics.
Well, speaking of inspiration, something has not inspired you until it has stimulated a kind of emotion in you.
Now, let's come down to the real intention of artistes when they sing.
Music generally, is a means of expressing one's feelings. The feelings of the singer is being potrayed through music, but in order to attract audience to his feelings, he has to add beat to it. Nowadays, the intensity of this beat overshadows the artiste's true feelings and instead of his listeners to share in his feelings, they get carried away with the beat and instead of being able to understand the lyrics, they can almost "recite the beat" like "tan tan tan tan pam pam pam pam"
The primary reason why a singer sings is for his listeners to share in his feelings.
A real musician potrays his feelings through music, just like a poet potrays his feelings through poetry. When a musician sings, what he expects is that his listeners get the real gist of the song (the lyrics), but they cannot get it without a nice beat to lure them. Beats are just to lure the audience; what you are luring them to, is the words you are singing.
Nowadays, some musicians just create beats and say anything as the lyric because they have come to realise that people don't really pay attention to the lyrics. So they play on our ignorance and make money from it.
Good rhythm + Sound lyrics =  Good music.
Good rhythm + Empty lyrics = Empty music.
Bad rhythm + Sound lyrics = Boring music.

Nobody wants Boring music.
We all want Good music.
But nowadays, Empty music is appreciated.

Dear Singers, we want to share in your feelings. Please give us good music.

Dear YnM lovers, let us know what you feel in the comment box below. WHICH INSPIRES YOU THE MOST: Lyrics or Rhythm?

I hope this post inspired you! Share with others too and if you have any question based on this post or any topic or issue of concern generally and you want YnM to butress in our next post, kindly leave a comment below.
